Hello people
this is the new pattern(2013) for TCS aptitude collected from 20 of my friends
from NIT,SASTRA and TCE who wrote the exam. The new inclusions in the pattern
is SUDOKU and puzzles. The old "70 pattern" is useless, its different
now. Here are some points about the test.
The aptitude consisted of 30 QUESTIONS which were tuff for the most part.
The test is for
80 minutes, total time(no timer for each question).
There is
negative marking (the amount was not specified).
Most of my
friends where able to attend only 20 questions due to time constraints(some of
the questions were long ).
As far as i know
there were no dummy questions,( but still beware i can't guarantee that if u
attend dummy questions you are out for sure)
Here are some questions that were asked for the test. At least 15 questions will come out of this:
1) 28a + 30 b +31c =365 find a+b+c if a.b.c are natural numbers
Ans:
If you observe carefully 28,30and 31 and no of days in the months of the year,
which sums up to 365. so a,b,c represent number of days with 28,30 and 31 days
in it so a=1,b=4,c=7 and a+b+c=12
2) P is 30% of Q
Q
is 20% of M
M
is 50% of N
what is P/N equal to.
Ans:p=30/100*q,
q=20/100*m, m=50/100*n. So q=20/100*(50/100*n)substitution
and p = (30/100)*(20/100)*(50/100)*n and p/n =0.03
3)Mother +daughter+infant age is 74. Mother age is 46 more then daughter and infant.
And infant age
is 0.4 of daughter. Find daughters age.
Ans:Let
x be mothers age, y be daughters age and z infants. Then x+y+z=74, x=y+z+46 and
z=0.4*y
substitute z in
the main equation to get x+1.4y=74 and x-1.4y=46, solve these 2 to get y=10years
4) A takes 12 hrs to complete a work
4) A takes 12 hrs to complete a work
B
takes 10 hrs to complete the same work
time taken by them to make 2 publications working independently.
Ans:calculate
the rate of work A=1/12 and for B=1/10 if they work together then A+B=11/30 is
rate of work, time taken to complete a 2 works together is 2/(11/30) which is 60/11
hrs
5)Some cards question. Probability of 1 ace which is red and one spade. Something like
This. Do go thru
the cards ques. The decks and everything.
Ans:probability
of getting a red ace and a spade card. So there are 52 cards in a deck out of
which there are 2 red ace's so the probability of getting red ace is 2/52, then
the probability of getting a spade from remaining cards is 13/51. The
probability of getting both cards one after other is (2/52)*(13/51)=13/1326
6)A finishes a
work in 8 hrs
B finishes a work in 10 hrs
C finishes a work in 12 hrs
A,B,C work
together but A leaves after 2 hrs find the time t taken by B & C.
Ans: effective rate of work A+B+C
=1/8+1/10+1/12=37/120.so in 2 hours work completed by the three is
37/120*2=37/60.The remaining work is 1-37/60 that is 23/60. now only B and C
are working together so 1/10+1/12 = 11/60 is the rate of work. So
time taken is 23/60(work remaining)/(11/60)= 2.09 hours approximately
7)There are
exactly 4 Thursdays and 4 Sundays in a month of 31. Find the first
day.
Ans: 1+4+7=12
becoz in a year there are 7 months of 31 days and 4 months of 30
days and 1 month of 29 or 28 days so
28*1+30*4+31*7=365
28*1+30*4+31*7=365
8)There were some questions of
this type :-
J, K, L, M and N collected
stamps. They collected a total of 100 stamps. None of them collected less than
10.
No two among them collected the
same number.
(i) 3 collected the same number
as K and M together.
(ii) L collected 3 more than the
cube of an integer
(iii) The no. collected by J was
the square of an integer.
(iv) Total no. collected by K was
either the square or cube of an integer.
1. The no. collected by J was:
(1) 27 (2) 49 (3) 36 (4) 64
2. The no. collected by K was:
(1) 16 (2) 27 (3) 25 (4) 36
3. The difference of numbers
collected by L & M was:
(1) 3 (2) 2 (3) 5 (4) 9
9)All numbers between 11 &
100 how many times is the number 4 used
10)A & B travelling from X to
Y. A starts at 12 pm at a speed of 63m/hr. B at 1:30 pm at a speed of 84m/hr.At
what time will B be 34m ahead of A?
11)There were2-3 visualizing
questions also.
A cube was given in 1d. With dotted lines. Faces were marked.
With 1 face as x. U had to
Tell that what will be face opposite x when it is folded as a
cube.
12)Another time distance, a
person runs around a rectangular field. Time given speed
Given. Find the distance. Apply
perimeter formula 2(length+breadth). And length and breadth
Ratio given. Find area.
Ratio given. Find area.
13)There is a school were 60% are
girls and 35% of the girls are poor.
Students are selected at random,
what is the probability of
selecting a poor girl out of total strength.
14)There are 3 groups A,B,C
2 members belong to all the three
3 members belong to A&B
3 members belong to B&C
3 members belong to C& A
minimum possible number of members in any three.
15)There are 3 numbers x,y,z
the mean is m
median is 5
m is 10 more than the smallest number and 15 less than the
biggest number.
what is x+y+z
ANS: 30
let x be the smallest number then x=m-10
let z be biggest number then z=m+15
so y has to be the middle number and it says median is 5 so y =
5
now we make an equation:
x+y+z/3 = m ...........1 substituting
((m-10)+5+(m=15))/3=m solving we get m=10
substituting in equation 1
x+y+z= 3*m = 30
16)There are 5 men and 11 women. How many ways can a panel of 11 be formed such that the number of men is not more than 3.
Ans:2256
3m and 8 women =5C3*11C8
2m and 9 women =5C2*11C9
1m and 10 women = 5C1*11C10
0m and 11 women =5C0*11C11
Add all that to get 2256
3m and 8 women =5C3*11C8
2m and 9 women =5C2*11C9
1m and 10 women = 5C1*11C10
0m and 11 women =5C0*11C11
Add all that to get 2256
17)Y-W-U-S-Q is coded as 25-23-21-19-17
what is S-F-A-Y-T coded as.
18) After 6 years Raju's fathers age will twice of the Raju's
age 2 years ago.His mothers age was twice that of Raju's age. Sum of the age of
their parents.
19) Initial price =40,000. It reduces 3/4 of previous
years price every year what is the price after 3 years.
20)60 men work take 40 days to complete a work. Now suppose that
is 60 men start working and every 5 days 5 people leave. In how
many days will the work be complete.
21)Then there was a series completion question.
22)There was a triangle questions. There was
a diagram of a triangle with multiple symmetric
equilateral triangle inside And they asked us how to
many triangles there were in total
23)Three groups :: x1,x2,x3
A,b common to all
three. Then atleast 1 elemnt common to 2 ie x1,x2,x2,x3,x3,x1.
Findminimum elements
in each group.
Ans: is 4.
Ans: is 4.
24)
ok this is a a 2 paper cut u have to fold it into a
cube and say what letter is on the opposite side of X.
Ans: is C
25) Like sudoku type
Ans: is C
25) Like sudoku type
u have to find a,b,e,c,d,f such that the sum of the sides are
equal.
Ans: easiest way to do this
is by substitution, you cant do this elsewise
26)Exact sudoku type question i don't remember the
value it was a 3x3 matrix and u have to find value missing values in it.
27)3 dice are rolled. Then what is the probability u will get
the sum of number as 10.
Ans :27/216
28) When all words in "master" is sorted in
alphabetical order then what is the 49th word.
Ans: Using the letter's in
master you fix a's position total no of words possible is 5*4*3*2*1= 120
words. Now the next word in alphabetical order would start with
"ae" the total number of words of that sort with first 2 letters
fixed are 4*3*2*1=24, now the 25th word till 48th word will start with
"am". So 49 word would be "aremst"
a_ _ _ _ _ =120 words
a e _ _ _ _=24 words
a m _ _ _ _ =24 words
"a r" is next in line so first word starting with
"ar" and rest in alphabetical order is aremst
29)Some seating arrangement question. Like X sits opposites Y
and B sits 2 seats left of A type questions. You are asked to find the person
sitting 4 seats right of X.
30) 3 trucks A,B,C
A loads 10 kg/min
B loads 13 1/3 kg/min
C unloads 5kg/min
If three simultaneously works then what is the time taken to
load 2.4 tonnes
Ans: First convert all to proper fraction so 13 1/3 = 40/3 kg/min Now work done by trucks together is:
A+B-C, so 10+13.3 - 5 = 18.3 kg/min. 2.4 tonnes is 2400 kg so time take is 2400/18.3 =131.1 minutes
BEST OF LUCK
